The Pilipino Alumni Chapter kicked off the 2023-2024 year with our BrewWorks Social. We started the event with a quick fire game to break the ice. Participants stood in a circle and were challenged to look at another person within the circle. If two people made eye contact, the pair would step to the side to get to know each other. The game, titled Lazer Eyes, allowed everyone a chance to pair up and meet someone new. After the game, we separated guests into three tables. Each table held a 10 minute discussion led by a PAC Board Member. Table topics included career paths, community organizations, and post-grad hardships.
Table leads asked questions like,
“What has your career path looked like so far? What has been the most surprising part of your career path?”
“What community organizations have you been or are currently involved in?”
“What has been the toughest part about life after college and how have you navigated it?”
Through these discussions, we heard a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Most importantly, participants left each table feeling not alone in their struggles.
For every post-college experience, each alumni:
didn't find post-grad life to be what they expected
learned that finding a community is not as easy after college, but still equally important
had to take a "leap of faith" at some point during their career
We were also fortunate to have a few undergrads attend who shared their stories as it relates to their college careers. The students, ranging from 3rd to 5th years, felt grateful to be able to hear what they might experience in the future and found comfort knowing that there are alumni willing to help them along the way.
